Proposed Nichols Basin Cable Park
The Port Commission seeks to carefully understand the various issues associated with the proposed project, ensure significant public input, and make a decision by October.
The following is the expected schedule for Port deliberations:
August 7, 2012 - 5:00pm - Port Commission Regular Meeting
Stakeholder Input Supportive of Cable Park
- Presentations from invited stakeholders who are in support of the cable park or neutral. Possible presentation by Naito Development and/or Bruno Rixon, engineer & builder of cable park facilities. Q&A with Commission. Approximately 90 minutes.
- The public is invited to attend, listen and learn, but public testimony will not be accepted on the proposed cable park at this meeting.
August 21, 2012 - 5:00pm - Port Commission Regular Meeting
Stakeholder Input Opposed to Cable Park
- Presentations from invited stakeholders who are opposed to the Cable Park or neutral. Possible presentation by "Friends of the Hood River Waterfront" and other local advocacy groups opposed to the project. Q&A with Commission. Approximately 90 minutes.
- The public is invited to attend, listen and learn, but public testimony will not be accepted on the proposed cable park at this meeting.
September 4, 2012 - 5:00pm - Port Commission Regular Meeting
Staff Analysis
- Staff and legal counsel present a summary of key issues, summary of public input received, and possible alternative actions for Commission consideration.
Wednesday,September 12, 2012 - 5:00pm - Special Public Meeting
LOCATION: Best Western Plus Hood River Inn-Columbia Room
Special Public Meeting
- Public testimony is encouraged, up to three minutes per person. Speakers are asked to testify with original material, or to weigh in on points made, but not spend excessive time on repetitive testimony.
September 18, 2012 - 5:00pm - Port Commission Regular Meeting
Commission Decision
- Commission discussion and possible decision about whether to direct staff to negotiate a lease.
- Possible executive session to discuss lease negotiation or legal issues.
Public Process and Input
- Special public notices will be placed in the Hood River News prior to the above noted Commission meetings. Please note when public testimony on the proposed cable park is and is not accepted.
- Spoken public testimony is scheduled for the September 12th Special Public Meeting.
- Written testimony may be received at any time throughout the process by mail, email or by submitting comments via this form

- The Commission will seek to obtain input from as many individuals as possible. All public and written testimony will be considered.
