More info:
The Port of Hood River is working to develop its Strategic Business Plan, its primary guiding policy document for 2020-2026 and is seeking public input on Port services, facilities, goals and objectives for the next six years. The Port has deployed an online survey (http://bit.ly/porthoodriver) that will be available through the month of February to collect public responses to various questions touching Port facilities and operations, including the Hood River-White Salmon Interstate Bridge, the Ken Jernstedt Airfield, the Hood River Marina, Hood River Waterfront parks and open spaces, Port-led real estate development and economic development activities.
In 2010, the state of Oregon created A New Strategic Business Plan for Oregon’s Statewide Port System. The state (Oregon Business Development Department) later created a template that was used by Ports around the state to create strategic business plans and required all Ports in the state to develop such plans in conformance with the template. The Port’s last plan was created in 2015 and was assumed to cover a 5-year period. That plan is available for download here: https://portofhoodriver.com/about-the-port/mission-strategic-business-plan/.
The effort to update the Plan began last October with a work session facilitated by Terry Moore, FAICP, a founding principal and former planning director at EcoNorthwest. Moore and a project team of four other consultants have been hired to assist the Port Commission and staff in the development of the new Plan. “A robust public outreach effort is an essential component of these types of planning efforts,” said Port Executive Director, Michael McElwee. “We are hoping to hear from as many people as possible on both sides of the river about the importance of Port-owned facilities and services, and the challenges facing us in the near future.”
A paper version of the survey will be included in the Port’s winter newsletter, which is bulk mailed to every resident in the Port district and inserted into an edition of the White Salmon Enterprise. A public meeting is planned for Thursday, February 20 at the Port conference room located at 1000 E. Port Marina Drive in Hood River. The meeting will be facilitated by Anne Pressentin, a public outreach consultant with firm EnviroIssues, based in Portland. The objectives of the meeting will be to provide an opportunity for attendees to share information, ask questions, and provide feedback in multiple ways on any Port facility, service, and role. The Port also welcomes public comment via email to info@portofhoodriver.com, or regular mail to: Port of Hood River, attn: Strategic Business Plan Update, 1000 E. Port Marina Drive, Hood River, OR 97031.
