COVID-19 threat prompts temporary closures
HOOD RIVER, OR – In response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, and in cooperation with the City, County, and Hood River Valley Parks & Rec District’s collective efforts to promote social distancing and reduce the risks of community spread of the virus in our community, the Port of Hood River will close all its waterfront parks until further notice.
On March 23, Oregon Governor Kate Brown issued Executive Order 20-12 “Stay at Home Except for Essential Needs,” restricting public gatherings. Please see the full details of this order here: http://govstatus.egov.com/or-covid-19. Residents and visitors alike are urged to comply with the order and avoid gatherings of all kinds. As part of the Governor’s order, all non-essential social and recreational gatherings of individuals are prohibited immediately, regardless of size, if a distance of at least six feet between individuals cannot be maintained. The Governor is urging Oregonians to go for walks and recreate in their own neighborhoods, close to home.
The Port closures affect the Event Site beach, the Nichols Basin beach and docks, the Spit Access parking lot, the Marina Green, the Marina Park, and the Marina Swim Beach.
The Waterfront Trail will remain open for walking, jogging, and dog walking but users are urged to comply with Governor Brown’s order to maintain a six-foot distance between people at all times and groups of more than 2 people are not allowed.
Signs will be posted at the closed areas as soon as possible.
