The Port of Hood River will close vehicle access to the Hook on Monday, December 13 while crews from James Dean Construction work to install new stormwater line infrastructure near the middle of the block just west of N. 8th Street on Portway Avenue. The project includes installation of new stormwater line and catch basins as well as concrete approach and temporary paving. The closure is expected to continue through January 20, 2023 depending on weather. The waterfront trail access to the Hook will remain open to bicycles and pedestrians.

PORT OF HOOD RIVER HIRES DEBBIE SMITH-WAGAR AS NEW FINANCE DIRECTOR
The Port of Hood River has hired Debbie Smith-Wagar, CPA as its new Finance Director to replace Fred Kowell who retired in December 2021 after working for the Port since 2012. Ms. Smith-Wagar has more that 25 years of experience in local government finance and accounting and has worked as an auditor, fund accounting systems analyst, and served as the assistant finance director of the City of Tigard from 2008-2015, and also for the City of Newberg from 1996-2001.

On Friday, Oct. 14, 2022, the Port of Hood River and the Bi-State Working Group hosted legislators from Oregon and Washington and described the urgent need to replace the Hood River-White Salmon Interstate Bridge and requested support for additional state funding for the new bridge. Over 30 legislators and staff attended and discussed why the Gorge communities strongly support replacing the bridge on an accelerated timeline.

The Hood River Marina boat launch will be closed for all use from Monday, October 10 through Monday, October 31, 2022 for demolition and construction to replace the visitor dock ramps. This project is funded by the Oregon State Marine Board and will fully replace both guest docks ramp floats.
